A "something went wrong" error at the bottom of the screen when reconnecting Instagram is usually a cached login, not a broken account.
Open a private or incognito browser window and try the reconnection there. If you have a desktop available, use that rather than a phone.
Your saved Instagram login on a standard browser is what stops the Instagram page from loading during the connection, and a private window bypasses it.
